The Canadian Jewish Congress has decided to submit a request to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration for admission to Canada of 50 “hard core” Jewish immigrant cases and to ask the Minister to reconsider a previous submission in the matter of definition of the term “refugee” which the organization considers too restrictive.
The Canadian Government today released data on immigration to Canada during the first seven months of the year. The total number of persons entering was 98,033 as compared to 114,744 during the same period of the last year. Germans formed the largest group among those admitted (19,939, nearly 2,000 more than during the same period a year ago), with English being second (17,512). The Jewish group numbered 2,404.
