The United States has been informed by the United Nations that Israel has violated armistice terms by military operations in the vicinity of El Auja in the demilitarized zone on the Israel-Egyptian frontier, State Department press officer Lincoln White said today.

Mr. White made known on behalf of the Government that the State Department is now aware of a report by the United Nations Mixed Armistice Commission that violations by Israel have occurred at El Auja. Asked if the United States would support Egypt at the United Nations on this matter, Mr. White said that question would have to be answered by the American delegation to the United Nations. He said he did not know if an American decision has yet been taken on the issue and that normally a course of action is decided upon after a question is presented and studied.

Yesterday Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Hussein paid an unscheduled and unlisted call on Henry A. Byroade, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
