Vincent Massey, Governor General of Canada, addressing a Canadian Jewish Congress party, condemned anti-Semitism and stated that the world must not forget the recent Jewish tragedy. “In this age, as all here know too well, the Jews have been the victims of the greatest, the most hideous crime that human history records, ” he stated. “I wonder if we Canadian Gentiles are fully aware of the magnitude of this crime. We know something of the quality of it. Few in our day have not read of the horrors of the concentration camp and of the death chamber. On the other hand, probably few have any true conception of the extent of a destruction which staggers the imagination.
“I have no thought of isolating the crime in one country, ” Mr. Massey continued. “It is a blot on the whole of our western civilization and the symptom of a disease which has infected all of us more or less.”
