Yitzchak Ben-Aharon, member of the Knesset and a delegate to the Inter-Parliamentary in Washington and Zvi Lurie, member of the executive of the Jewish Agency–both leaders of the Mapam Party–today issued the following statement:
“The sentence imposed on M. Oren will stun all his friends who have known him as being innocent of the accusations under which he had been arrested for two years and now sentenced for 15 years’ imprisonment. Mr. Oren had never conspired against the Czechoslovakian State. We have no knowledge of the procedure of the trial but there is no question in our minds that the outcome is an obvious and severe miscarriage of justice.
“Both the United Workers Party in Israel, the party of M. Oren, and all his friends will never acquiesce to the sentence and will continue the fight for his liberation and for his return to his homeland and to his family. We will not cease to proclaim the innocence of M. Oren.”
