A warning against the strengthening of Egypt by the Western Powers to the extent of imperiling the security of Israel, was sounded here today by Herbert Morrison, Foreign Secretary in the last Labor Government, Mr. Morrison made his point during a debate in Commons on the Queen’s Speech, which opened the current Parliamentary session yesterday.
He urged the Western Powers to keep in mind the desirability of a general peace between Israel and the Arab states. “If there should come out of this a situation in which the military strength of Egypt is increased to a great extent, which would imperil the security of Israel as a state and therefore imperil the peace of the Middle East, it would be very unfortunate.” Mr. Morrison declared.
