Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and Israel Ambassador Abba S. Eban extensively discussed Israel’s invocation of Article XII of the Israel-Jordan armistice agreement in a meeting at the State Department today which lasted one and one-half hours.

Mr. Eban, emerging from Mr. Dulles’ office, told reporters he explained in detail to the Secretary of State “the important nature of the step we have taken at the United Nations to bring about an Israel-Jordan conference to review the armistice agreement.” The Israel Ambassador said his government regarded this move as a possible “turning point toward peace and hoped all governments interested in the pursuit of peace would indicate their sympathy with this initiative.”
