An agreement for the pooling of all TB facilities operated by the Israel Government and the Joint Distribution Committee in the Jewish State was announced today by Morris Laub, JDC Assistant Secretary.

The agreement provides for the pooling of all TB accommodations operated by the Israel Government (525 beds) and of the facilities (825 beds) established within the past three years by Malben, JDC welfare program on behalf of aged, ill and handicapped newcomers to the Jewish State. Under the terms of the new pact, patients will be placed in institutions best fitted to meet their particular requirements, with the Israel Ministry of Health and Malben each remaining financially responsible for their respective institutions.

Of the additional 1,500 beds provided for TB patients in Israel since 1948, the JDC officer indicated, the majority have been established by Malben itself or with the organization’s financial assistance. In addition, Mr. Laub pointed out that Malben has also pioneered in the field of TB rehabilitation, including the establishment of the first TB rehabilitation center in Israel.
