The Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities today appointed three of its members to prepare proposals on the carrying out of three contemplated studies of discrimination.
Hernan Santa Cruz of Chile was appointed to find the best procedure for investigating discrimination in the exercise of the political rights proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Judge Philip Halpern of the U. S. was asked to consider means of investigating discrimination in religious practices. Jose Ingles of the Philippines will be responsible for suggesting ways to study discrimination in emigration, immigration and travel.
The three members will work out their proposals between now and next year’s session of the Subcommission, when the group will decide in the light of the preliminary work done which of the studies should be pursued in 1955.
