College for Training Rabbis and Ministers Opened in Johannesburg

A college for the training of rabbis and ministers is being established in Johannesburg under the joint auspices of the South African Board of Jewish Education and the Federation of Synagogues of the Transvaal.

The College will consist of two departments: a department for the training of ministers, particularly for the country communities, and a department to enable ministers to study for a rabbinic diploma.

Rabbi A. Hilewitz, principal of the Rabbi Judah Leib Zlotnik Seminary, has been appointed head of the college which will be administered by a joint committee of the sponsoring bodies. Chief Rabbi Prof. L. I. Rabinowitz, who was instrumental in bringing about the establishment of this college, and Rabbi S. Rosenzweig will be actively associated with him.
