The Jewish community has appealed to Italian Foreign Minister Attilio Piccioni to have the Italian Government intervene with the Rumanian Government to halt the trial of Zionist and Jewish communal leaders in Rumania and to release those who have been sentenced to long prison terms.

The Italian Jewish leaders, in their appeal to the Foreign Minister, noted that the Rumanian peace treaty of 1947 bound Rumania to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms. A similar plea was made directly to the Rumanian Legation here.
