The United Zionist Council of Canada today charged Rumania with “reviving the crudest excesses of the Iron Guard against Rumanian Jewry” and expressed “profound shock and indignation at the cruel and unjustifiable persecution of Zionist leaders in Rumania.”

Dr. Edward E. Gelber, president of the Council, sent a message to the Jewish Agency in Israel extending the sympathy and solidarity of Canadian Zionists to the Israeli leaders who recently completed a five-day hunger strike in protest against the imprisonment of innocent Zionist leaders in Rumania.
