Interior Minister Israel Rokach favors complete freedom of publication for newspapers and periodicals in languages other than Hebrew, and opposes any measures which may limit non-Hebrew publications, he told a press conference.
The Minister expressed the hope that the new generation would be completely Hebrew-speaking and, therefore, would have no need for a foreign language press. Of the 242 dailies, weeklies, monthlies and quarterlies published in Israel, 96 are in some language other than Hebrew.
