In the absence of its Socialist members, today, the Municipal Council passed a by-law prohibiting the sale of pig meat in Jerusalem. The by-law must be approved by the Ministry of the Interior before it can go into effect.

It was held doubtful whether such approval will be given in view of the consideration the Ministry will probably take of the number of non-Jews living in Jerusalem. Recently, when Tiberias passed such a municipal ordinance, approval of the law was denied by the Interior Ministry.
