Plans for merger of the Jewish Welfare Fund of San Francisco and the Federation of Jewish Charities have been completed, it was announced here today.
The respective presidents of the two agencies, Walter D. Heller and John R. Golden, announced that their boards had approved the merger plan in principle and a ten-man committee, composed of five men from each agency, has been set up to work out the technical and legal problems involved. The welfare fund is the central fund-raising body for overseas, local and national Jewish agencies. The charities federation is the administrative organization of local welfare agencies.
The new agency will be called the Jewish Welfare Federation of San Francisco, Marin and Peninsula. Its establishment follows a two-year study by a special task force. Community relationships and relations with international and national agencies will not be affected by the reorganization, it was announced. The relationship of local agencies to the Community Chest will not be disturbed.
