City-wide observances of the 300th anniversary of the settlement of Jews in America are being held here as this major center of Jewish life in the United States joins the national celebration of the American Jewish Tercentenary. Observances here, as in New York and many other cities, began with special, synagogue services this week.
The Chicago Sun-Times, in an editorial hailing the Tercentenary, noted for the benefit of the world that Christian Americans were joining with Jewish fellow citizens to mark this anniversary. “Americans of all creeds live together in peace and understanding,” the newspaper added.
