The Canadian Jewish Congress today submitted a memorandum to the Canadian Government on Austrian restitution to the Jews.
The memorandum requested the Department of External Affairs to study the issues involved in the claims of victims of the Austrian regime after the Anschluss, some of whom are now residents or citizens of Canada. It further requested that the Canadian Government indicate its interest in the successful outcome of negotiations between the Committee for Jewish Material Claims on Austria and the Austrian Government.
Simultaneously, the Canadian Jewish Congress has made public its request that Austria renew its negotiations with the Committee on an improved basis which might lead to the practical realization of a global settlement and legislation in favor of persecutes and victims of the Anschluss regime. The Congress has also submitted these views to the Charge d’affaires of the Austrian Government at Ottawa.
