The Chief Rabbis of all Italian cities appealed to the Vatican today to intervene with Egypt against the trial of 13 Egyptian Jews charged with espionage and organizing a regime of terror in Egypt on behalf of Israel. The appeal was also addressed to all other religious communities in Italy.
The rabbinical appeal expressed concern over the trial of the Jews and over the methods used in extorting confessions from the defendants. It called upon the representatives of all religious movements in this country to join in denouncing this “offense against humanity and justice” and in an effort to safe “many young lives from martyrdom.”
