Mayor Robert F. Wagner today designated the period of January through February 17, 1955, as ZOA membership month, in a proclamation calling for “mass enrollment in the Zionist Organization of America.” The proclamation was read by Deputy Mayor Henry Epstein at City Hall at an impressive ceremony in the presence of more than 100 Zionist leaders from the New York area.
The proclamation designating ZOA membership month in New York City marked the launching by the ZOA of a nation-wide campaign aimed at the mass enrollment of American Jews within its ranks in support of Israel. Similar proclamations by state and city officials are scheduled to be issued in other mayor communities throughout the country.
