Turkish Premier Adnan Menderes, who negotiated the projected defensive alliance between Turkey and Iraq, is asking the Arab governments to recognize Israel as an established state, the Beirut radio reported today, quoting the Lebanese newspaper AI Nahar.

The report quotes Premier Menderes as stating that “Arab criticism of Turkey for its cordial relations with Israel is unjustified, because Turkey strives to secure its interests regardless of where its sympathies may lie.”

The Cairo radio, expressing Egypt’s opposition to the Turkish-Iraqi pact, said today that Turkey was not fit to be an Arao ally because of her trade links with Israel. The broadcast contained bitter attacks against both Turkey and Israel and warned the Arab world against endorsing the projected Turkish-Iraqi agreement.
