Israel and Jordan have signed an agreement providing that prisoner of war status be given to members of each others’ armed or police services who are captured, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization announced here today. Lt. Col. Charles E. Brewster, chairman of the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission witnessed the agreement, which conforms to the Geneva prisoner of war convention of 1949.
Later in the day. Israel and Jordan exchanged prisoners affected by the new pact. Jordan set free two Israel hikers captured last month when they accidentally crossed the border. Israel turned over to Jordan one Arab Legionnaire and two Bedouin.
