Despite assurances last week by Neo-Destour leader Habib Bourguiba that an autonomous Tunisia would consider its Moslem and Jewish citizens as equals before the law, disquiet over their prospects continued among the Jewish population here.

Passions among the Tunisian masses were said to be at their height, and there was fear among some sections of the Jewish population here that the current nationalistic fervor might erupt in incidents with unpleasant results. Meanwhile, growing numbers of Tunisian Jews are registering for emigration to Israel and arrangements for speeding their departure are continuing.
