A group of 18 residents of Foehrenwald, last Jewish DP camp on German soil, left for settlement in Israel, where housing has already been assured through cooperation of the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee, with funds deriving from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims.
Among the group are four “illegal returnees”–former DP’s who emigrated to Israel once before, then returned to Germany some years ago in the hope of being able to emigrate to another overseas country, but have now decided that they prefer Israel, after all. Their journey is sponsored by United HIAS Service.
