The role of American Jews in pressing for liberalization of American immigration legislation was praised here today by “Civilta Cattolica,” official publication of the Jesuit Society. The publication called on American Catholics and Protestants to emulate the Jews in seeking a just immigration policy in the United States.

“It must be recognized that Jewish members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have been solidly in the lead “whenever the necessity for a just and generous immigration policy had to be pointed out in Congress,” the Jesuit publication said. It added that this is “understandable” since the Jews have suffered exile and homelessness through the centuries.
