Israel’s Knesset delegation to the Parliament here was entertained this week-end at a dinner given by the Swedish Parliament. The Israelis were welcomed by Johannes Nilsson, Speaker of the Upper House. Pinchas Lavon, leader of the Israel group, expressed the thanks of the delegation.
“Young countries,” he said, “seldom want to learn, but Israel has much to learn from Sweden, particularly in the field of social welfare and the workings of democracy.” Others present at the dinner included former Governor Rickard Sandler, Liberal Party leader Bertil Ohlin, Trade Union Federation chairman Axel Strand, and Albin Johnson, director of the Cooperatives Union. Later, the Israelis toured various institutions of social welfare in the Stockholm area and were honored at a luncheon tendered by the Swedish Government.
