State Department sources said today that while no specific action has been taken or planned on Egypt’s newly announced restrictions on shipping entering the Gulf of Akaba, the United States stands on its previous position as expressed by Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., in March 1954 and in a United Nations resolution urging free use of the Suez Canal.
