The Wall Street Post of the American Legion has awarded an “Americanism medal” to Russell Maguire, publisher of the magazine “American Mercury” nine of whose editors resigned last week over his allegedly anti-Semitic policies. Mr. Maguire who denied the charges of anti-Semitism, failed to show up at the presentation ceremony this weekend.

Stephen W. O’Leary, president of the Legion post, said that he would mail the medal to Mr. Maguire. In discussing the award with newsmen, Mr. O’Leary said he was embarrassed by the situation but pointed out that the medal was voted six months ago. He also said that the medal honored not Mr. Maguire, but the magazine including the men who had resigned.
