The United Nations in its ten years of performance has demonstrated its capacity to reduce international tensions and misunderstandings, Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the American Jewish Congress, declared in a statement conveying his organization’s greetings to the international agency on UN Day, tomorrow.

Analyzing the UN’s contributions to peace, Dr. Goldstein said that the international organization has sought to show that peace “depends on positive factors–respect for law and the rights of others, the cooperation of nations in solving common problems and in improving the economic lot of man. The UN, in short, wisely concentrates its energies on economic, social and political programs which are aimed at fundamental conditions that breed division and conflict.”

The specialized committees and agencies of the UN were praised today by Philip M. Klutznick, world President of B’nai B’rith, for their accomplishments in raising the standard of living in underdeveloped areas of the world. In a statement marking the tenth United Nations Day, he cautioned against the temptation to overlook the less dramatic work of these groups in providing an essential basis for world peace.
