A total of 57,957 visas have been granted of 161,554 applications filed with American officials under the refugee relief program, which would permit 209,000 immigrants to enter the United States outside regular quotas.
These figures were reported this week-end at a session of the Intergovernmental Committee for European Refugees by Scott McLdod, administrator of the Refugee Relief Act of 1953. Mr. McLeod said the program’s work would be completed “successfully” by the target date, December 31, “in all areas of operation except possibly Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.”
