Israel may find it possible in time to compete “on an equal basis with other nations” in the field of nuclear energy, it was stressed at the two -day conference of 300 technical experts which concluded here last night.
This prediction was voiced by Professor Joseph Weil, dean of College of Engineering of the University of Florida. He pointed to the fact that Israel has large phosphate deposits, and that the phosphate ores may be able to yield sufficient uranium for commercial power uses.
The conference, which was held under the sponsorship of the American Technion Society, also heard Dr. Nathan Robinson, Israel solar expert, announce that solar hot water heaters are already on public sale in Israel. Victor Salkind, scientific counselor of the Israel Embassy, said that Israel mist utilize the most modern and scientific methods of research, development and production to exploit the hitherto limited natural resources of the country. Only in this way, Mr. Salkin said, “can we compete in the world markets–or survive.”
