Norbert Prager, president of the Hanover Jewish Community, was decorated by the West German Government at a special ceremony held in the office of the Minister-President of Lower Saxony, of which Hanover is the capital. This is the first time that the Federal German Government has decorated a Polish-born Jew.
M. Prager, a Hanover resident since 1920, was born in the Polish town of Dobrzyn and came to Germany upon the outbreak of the first World War. He survived the Buchenwald concentration camp and after the war, rebuilt the Hanover Jewish Community, where he personally performs all religious functions. He is also chairman of the State Federation of Jewish Communities in Lower Saxony.
