Gov. Abraham A Ribicoff of Connecticut received the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, while Charles H Silver president of New York’s Board of Education, was given the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, at a special convocation of Yeshiva University here tonight. Both degrees were awarded by Dr. Samuel Belkin, president of the university, as part of the institution’s observance of its tenth anniversary as the first American university under Jewish auspices.
Following the convocation, the university held its 27th annual scholarship dinner Max J Etra, chairman of the board of trustees, announced at the dinner that, this year, the university will provide $500,000 worth of scholarships to 1,600 students comprising 75 percent of the university’s undergraduate enrollment.
