Salim L. Lewis was elected president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies for the year 1956-57 by the Federation board of trustees at a meeting held last night. The board also elected Gustave L. Levy to fill the post of president-elect–a newly created position designed to facilitate succession to the office of Federation president. Former Supreme Court Justice Joseph M. Proskauer was chosen chairman of the board. Mr. Lewis is serving his third term as 15th president of the Federation.
