The Soviet Government and other Communist countries were urged today to open their doors and permit the emigration of those Jews who wished to join their relatives in the United States and in other lands.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 26th annual convention of the Council of Organizations of the United Hias Service, held at the Hotel Commodore. More than 3,000 delegates from labor, fraternal and religious organizations attended the one-day convention, at which changes in the present U.S. immigration law were requested by New York’s Lieutenant Governor George B. De Luca and Murray Gurfein, president of United Hias, the Jewish world-wide migration agency “We should change the quota system in our immigration law, to eliminate quotas based on national origins in conformity with our democratic ideals, Mr. Gurfein said.
