Four graduates of the New York school of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion were ordained as rabbis tonight at the 31st ordination and commencement exercises of the school. The four were student rabbis of temples in various cities.
Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of HUC-JIR, who ordained the graduates, conferred honorary degrees on New York State Attorney General Jacob K. Javits; Dr. Emanuel Gamoran, director of education of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Rabbi D. Max Eichhorn of the Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy of the National Jewish Welfare Board, and Rabbis William F. Rosenblum of New York, Aaron H. Lefkowitz of Elberon, New Jersey, and A. Alan Steinbach of New York.
The first degrees of Master of Arts in Sacred Music will be awarded here tomorrow night to Cantors William Belfer of Rockville Center, N. Y., and Arthur M. Wolfson of New York at the commencement exercises of the School of Sacred Music, an affiliate of HUC-JIR. Seven graduates will be given cantorial diplomas and certificates of membership in the American Conference of Certified Cantors.
