American Ort Women Contribute $500,000 for Training Center in Israel

Ground breaking ceremonies were held here today for the new ORT Vocational Training Center in the eastern section of this city which will be built with the help of the American Women’s Division of ORT which contributed $500,000 for the purpose.

Prominent city and national officials–including Labor Minister Golda Myerson, and Tel Aviv Mayor Levanon–as well as representatives of the American Embassy in Israel and women ORT leaders from the United States, headed by Mrs. V. Segal, participated in the ceremonies. A speech hailing the efforts of the ORT womens division in the United States as well as Dr. Aron Syngalowski for development of ORT vocational centers in many countries was delivered by J. Shapira, ORT chairman here.

The new vocational school will occupy a 30-dunam plot of land containing workshops, classrooms, laboratories, a library, auditorium, dining room and sports field. It will accommodate 550 pupils, 350 of whom are at present students at an ORT school using unsuitable quarters in Jaffh. Among subjects to the taught will be included electro mechanics, training for radio technicians, electronics and precision mechanics.
