A new $75,000 municipal youth center in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf district has been given the name. “Anne Frank Home” in the words of borough Mayor Dumstrey, “so that young people will ever remember what cruelties and inhumanity were inflicted upon human beings. The fate of Anne Frank must be an obligation for German youth.”

At the opening ceremony, actor Wolfgang Kuehne read moving passages from Anne Frank’s diary. At the invitation of the municipal authorities, the president of the West Berlin Jewish Community, Heinz Galinski, delivered a stirring talk in which he lauded the borough administration for not choosing “the easy path of forgetfulness.” There in lies a guarantee for the future, he declared.
