Tension mounted in Israel today as the press reported the killing of two Israeli civilians and the wounding of two policemen in three separate localities during the last twenty-four hours.
Premier David Ben Gurion, who is also Israel’s Defense Minister, and Foreign Minister Golda Myerson will meet with the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee of the Israel Parliament to discuss the frontier situation in the light of the growing number of Arab attacks, especially on the Jordanian border. Meanwhile, the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission met today to hear Israel’s charge against Jordan in connection with the wounding of an Israeli policeman when his patrol car hit a mine near the Jordan frontier at Afuleh. Another policeman was shot and wounded on the main highway between Tel Aviv and Tiberias. The two civilians were killed in a road ambush near the Jordanian frontier, about 20 miles south of the Dead Sea.
