The Cairo Radio, in a Hebrew-language broadcast, said today that Egypt would not oppose the building of a canal in Israel parallel to the Suez Canal, but warned that such a project “would turn Israel into a colony of many foreign states.”

An earlier broadcast on the Egyptian Hebrew-language service had accused “Zionist extremists” of trying to make common cause with the West against Egypt. The commentator expressed confidence however, that Israelis were too intelligent to be taken in by “Zionist warmongering of this kind.”
