James Hoffa, of Detroit, vice-president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, today presented Prime Minister David Ben Gurion with a portrait of the Israeli leader. The portrait, a pastel, was done by an American artist, Nick Vola, of Los Angeles.
Mr. Hoffa is in this country as head of a 28-man delegation from his union. The delegation has been touring the country for a week, and has been hailed for American labor’s understanding of and sympathy for Israel by most of the leaders of the Government. Last week, Mr. Hoffa laid the cornerstone for a new children’s home at Beith Hakerem, near this city. Construction of the home was made possible by $270,000 collected in Mr. Hoffa’s honor at a dinner in Detroit last April.
