Milton Nirken, 16, of Houston, Tex., triumphed over six other finalists to win the annual discussion contest today at the 33rd international convention of Aleph Zadik Aleph, B’nai B’rith youth group. Bennett Rolfe, 17, of Los Angeles, took second place.
Subject of the discussion was “Creating and Living the Golden Age of Jewry.” The debaters differed sharply over whether or not Jewry’s golden age was here. The participants were in general agreement that American Jewry should not look to Israel to create a golden age but must create its own, based on its indigenous culture.
One hundred and sixty-five teen-agers are attending the convention.
