Israel must use this time in which “one can reasonably expect to be safe from Arab attack” to put it’s foreign affairs in order, Premier David Ben Gurion told the first meeting of the newly-elected Mapai Party general committee.
It was too early, Mr. Ben Gurion said, to judge whether indications of a political change of mind “in some quarters” were signs of a “genuine turn in our favor.” However, he asserted there was ground for hope that before long Israel “would have a true ally.” He also expressed complete confidence in the army’s ability to defend the country.
The new Mapai general committee elected Dr. Giora Josephthal its secretary. Dr. Josephthal is now treasurer of the Jewish Agency.
