Senator Herbert H. Lehman today termed “meaningless” the announcement by the Defense Department that it will eliminate from the Air Force manual reference to the fact that American GI’s of Jewish faith cannot fly into Saudi Arabia. The Department made the announcement in a letter to Senator Duff of Pennsylvania.

“Actually,” Senator Lehman said, “the Defense Department’s action is meaningless since the department itself points out that American GI’s of Jewish faith or descent will continue to be barred from the U. S. air base in Saudi Arabia. The department thus continues to tolerate, to acquiesce in the unjustifiable discrimination by a foreign government against American military personnel on the basis of their religious faith.”
