James Haff, correspondent of the New York Times, was declared persona non grata by the Israel Government today, Mr. Haff allegedly evaded Israel censorship by filing dispatches from Cyprus which had been suppressed by the censorship here.
Mary Frances Hagan, 29, a U.S. citizen, was found guilty in Jerusalem District Court on two counts involving espionage, and sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment.
Israel and Bulgaria have signed a $2 million trade agreement under which Israel will receive timber, wheat, tobacco, minerals and grain in exchange for tires, citrus, phosphates, medical supplies and pipe.
Dr. Mordecai M. Levi, of the Israel Institute of Technology, has been awarded an Eisenhower Exchange fellowship, and will leave for the United States next month.
