Israel Releases U.N. Official Who Killed Boy in Traffic Accident

Israeli authorities released today Maxime Cailleaux, Belgian security officer attached to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization here, who was arrested Sunday night after he killed a 14-year-old boy in a traffic accident. M. Cailleaux was released following receipt of assurances from Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, UN truce chief, that he would be available in the event in the event the Israelis decided to try him. Gen. Burns had claimed diplomatic immunity for the officer, but the Israeli police are disputing his claim, asserting that M. Cailleaux was off duty and driving a private car when he hit the child.
