The four-day annual convention of the National Committee for Labor Israel opened here-today to consider ways and means of aiding the work of the Histadrut in Israel through the raising of $5,500,000 in the United States during 1957. The funds will be used primarily for the expansion of medical, vocational training, cultural and aid-to-immigrants program of Histadrut, Israel’s Federation of Labor.
About 3,000 delegates from all parts of the United States and Canada are attending the convention, which marks the end of a third of a century of fund-raising for the Histadrut in this country. The sessions will be addressed by prominent guests from Israel and a number of American labor leaders. Mayor Robert F. Wagner will be among the principal speakers.
