American diplomats in Cairo have informed the Egyptian officials of United States concern over reports of Egyptian mistreatment of Jews, it was reported by U. S. diplomatic sources today. The Egyptian Foreign Office reportedly told the U. S. Embassy that if there were any excesses, they were committed by over-zealous minor officials.

The State Department’s own reports on the situation of the Jews in Egypt remain incomplete. State Department spokesman Lincoln White said today that the Department knows “not a thing” about deportations of Jews from Egypt. He indicated that the Department was still collecting information on reports of developments in Egypt affecting Jews.
