Jewish Children Form Majority in Sixteen Montreal Protestant Schools

Jewish children form the majority of the total enrollment in 16 Protestant schools of Greater Montreal. This is the conclusion of an investigation on the enrollment of Jewish children in Greater Montreal by the Canadian Jewish Congress, carried out for the two years ending 30th April 1955 and 30th April, 1956.

According to the Canadian Jewish Congress, the total enrollment in Protestant schools of Greater Montreal increased from 52, 331 in 1955 to 54, 953 in 1956. Jewish enrollment during these two years increased from 13, 978 in 1955 to 14, 481in 1956. Of the Jewish enrollment, 27, 11 percent applied to high schools in 1955. In the following year, the Jewish participation in Protestant high schools was slightly reduced to 26, 8 percent.
