Israel’s population at the end of 1956 stood at 1,872,000, the Ministry of Interior announced today. This figure included 200,000 non-Jewish citizens. Two-thirds of Israel’s current population are immigrants, the report stated. Some 8,000 persons left Israel permanently last year.
