Emperor Haile Selassie expressed a desire to visit Israel and also to inspect Ethiopian Church institutions there, in the first interview he has ever given an Israeli newspaperman. The interview, with correspondent Dan Bavli, will appear in tomorrow’s Jerusalem Post.
Mr. Bavli quotes the Emperor as expressing satisfaction over the prospect of improved economic relations with Israel as a result of the opening of the port of Elath. The Emperor said Ethiopia would welcome Israeli investments in his country and would be happy to accept the services of Israeli technicians in the development of his country.
Haile Selassie, who spent a long time in Jerusalem as a refugee from Mussolini’s legions, expressed his conviction that peace will come to the Middle East. He also praised the Eisenhower Doctrine.
