National Commander William Carmen of the Jewish War Veterans today commended the attitude displayed by the City of New York toward Arabian King Saud and characterized Secretary of State Dulles as having made a deal with the King that discriminates against Americans on a basis of religion.
Mr. Carmen referred to press conference remarks by Secretary Dulles yesterday in which the Secretary sought to blame New York City for King Saud’s continued insistence on anti-Jewish discriminatory measures barring U.S. Jews from the Dharhan air base.
The Jewish War Veterans leader said the action of Mayor Wagner of New York was “the only honest act of decency through the whole miserable escapade of King Saud’s visit to the United States.” He added that it must disturb every American when the United States “continues to cater to a potentate of a country that still condones and practices slavery and where human morality does not exist.”
He called the countenancing of religious discrimination by the State Department an insult not only to American Jews but also to the United States constitution.
